President Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday called for a better strategy to address the issue of water shortage and achieve enhanced agricultural production in Balochistan, a land of natural resources and hardworking people.
The ongoing projects for the promotion of the agriculture sector in the province including the green tractor scheme were the guarantee of agricultural development in Balochistan, he added.
The President while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the “Balochistan Green Tractor Programme” here appreciated the projects initiated by the provincial government for the development of the agriculture sector.
Governor Balochistan Syed Zahoor Agha, Chief Minister Jam Kamal, Provincial Agriculture Minister Engr. Zmarak Khan Achakzai was also present on the occasion.
The President said that Balochistan, being a major contributor to the country’s total livestock production, was full of natural resources.
He said that agriculture and livestock production sectors were the professions of prophets and belonged to human history, adding, that with the passage of time and increase in population, these sectors achieved progress and were progressing due to modern technology.
The President gave the example of Vietnam, which he said having a coastline smaller than Balochistan, took its fisheries exports from the initial worth US $ 300 million to the US $ 10 billion per annum due to better strategy and concentration.
Pakistan’s success
He said that with China alone spending the US $ 70 billion per annum on the import of Halal meat, the huge foreign exchange could be earned through the development of the livestock sector.
The President said that Pakistan could achieve a manifold increase in its Halal meat exports by checking the animal disease of foot and mouth.
He said that elected representatives of Balochistan will have to play their active role in the sustainable development of the province through the right decisions.

The President said that contrary to the past, when wrong decisions were made regarding the mineral resources in Balochistan, the present government was taking measures for improvement which would also help address past mistakes.
President Dr. Arif Alvi said that as against the economic downslide faced by the neighboring countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pakistan comparatively recorded fewer economic losses due to its better and effective strategy.
He said that with the grace of Allah Almighty and the cooperation of people from all segments of society and media, the country remained successful in checking the coronavirus pandemic.
The President said that in today’s open world and the government finding ways and means of development Pakistan had ample opportunities, adding, the people should exploit the opportunities including that of Amazon.
He said that as there was deterioration in various institutions Prime Minister Imran Khan did sincere efforts and took effective measures to check corruption and the outflow of the country’s wealth through money laundering by few people.
Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal while speaking on the occasion said that the per day water requirement of Quetta was 20 million gallons.
He said that work was in progress on the project of recycling the used water and for conservation of the precious resource.
Jam Kamal also highlighted the various measures being taken by the provincial government for the socio-economic development of Balochistan.
