Govt criticised for delaying wheat seed distribution

by Mazhar Ali

SWABI: Farmers of the flood-hit areas here on Thursday criticised the provincial government for delaying distribution of wheat seed provided by the World Bank. They also called for simplifying the method for acquisition of the seeds.

The protesting growers gathered in front of the local agriculture office in Marghuz village and said the wheat seed had been provided by the World Bank for cultivation in flood-hit regions. However, they complained that they could not get the seeds because of the complex process adopted by the government for distribution.

They said they had also submitted an application to the district administration and met with the deputy commissioner, who told them to contact the provincial government for a solution to their problem.

The farmers also urged MPA Aqibullah Khan, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and local government representatives to intervene and resolve their problem.

They announced to stage a sit-in in front of the agriculture office on Monday if the issue was not resolved.

When contacted, officials at Azam police post said that according to preliminary investigations Israr was killed accidentally while the target was another man from Buner district who was also working in the same factory and had a family issue with the attackers. Syed Rehman, brother of the deceased, nominated Lal Rahim and Ambar Khan of Koga village of Buner in the FIR.

Meanwhile, Awwal Zada, Taj Milli Khan and Ishaq Khan were injured as a result of collision between a car and motorcycle near Chota Lahor on Swabi-Jehangira road.

Addressing the lawyers, Tariq Afridi said the new block would help the Chota Lahor lawyers to work and prepare their cases with concentration in their offices.
