The movement of Peruvian asparagus through South Florida ports of entry is expected to decrease slightly. Trading of jumbo slow, others very slow. Prices are lower for fairly heavy supplies. Production in southern Peru is expected to decrease, while production in northern Peru is expected to increase by mid-June. Some sales go to consignment as shipments face competition from domestic growing areas.
The movement of Mexican asparagus crossing through Arizona, California, and Texas is expected to be about the same. Trading was slow at lower prices. Most shipments are booked at previously committed prices, with prices reported representing very few spot market sales.
Production is finishing up in the Obregon region and is expected to move into Central Mexico by June 6. The movement of asparagus from Michigan is expected to increase as more growers begin harvesting. Trading active at lower prices.
The movement of asparagus out of Walla Walla District and Lower Yakima Valley, Washington expected to decrease as most growers have finished cuttings for the fresh market. A wide variety in prices was reported as supplies were light and in too few hands to establish a market.
The last report has been issued, with light shipments expected to continue through June 17.
Mexican avocado crossings through Texas are expected to increase slightly. Trading was fairly slow, with prices on 84s lower and others higher. Shippers report only purchasing only what is needed to fill orders in an effort to wait out the high prices, keeping demand fairly light.
The Avocado movement from Southern California is expected to remain about the same. Trading was moderate, with prices on 84s generally unchanged, 32s and 36s lower, and others higher. Organic prices are expected to rise until new crop fruit becomes available.
