Biden has not yet selected all of his ambassadors for the most important posts overseas – including China, the United Kingdom, and Israel.
Cindy McCain, however, was nominated on Wednesday as Biden’s ambassador to the UN food agency in Rome.
In response, she tweeted that she would be honored and would look forward to the work ahead.
However, Senate confirmation is yet required for the position. In addition to McCain, Biden announced 17 other nominations, including Claire Cronin as Ireland’s ambassador. Currently, Cronin serves in the Massachusetts State House.
In Massachusetts, Cronin was a surrogate and a fund-raiser for Biden’s presidential campaign. As a state official, she cast her state’s official nominating votes for him during last summer’s Democratic National Convention.
Likewise, McCain was a key supporter of Biden’s 2020 presidential bid, and she endorsed him over Donald Trump, which was instrumental in his victory in Arizona.
Bipartisanship is a key issue facing a deeply divided Washington as the president emphasizes bipartisanship in his nomination.
Her nomination is very important for this post as among other things, Cindy McCain has fought to curb world hunger and human trafficking as chair of the McCain Institute board of trustees. This experience will help the world fight hunger and food scarcity.
As the UN website, it indicates that the World Food Program, based in Rome, provides financial and in-kind resources and develops policies to alleviate global hunger with the support of United States policymakers, corporations, foundations, and individuals.
During his campaign for re-election in Arizona, McCain helped Biden win that state with her support. Biden’s victory in Arizona was the second in 70 years for a Democrat. A total of 3.4 million ballots were cast, and he was elected by 10,457 votes or 0.3 percent.
“During the inauguration of Biden in January, she was also there. During their time together in the Senate, Joe Biden and John McCain became friends” at the funeral ceremony of the late senator, Biden spoke.
